As the freezing winter passes and green spring arrives, the festival of colors (Holy) comes right around the corner.
Holi is one of the important festivals both in India and Nepal. Holi is celebrated each year with zeal and enthusiasm. It takes place on the full moon day in Nepali Fagu month (February to March in Solar Calendar) and lasts for 2 days. For those who like playing around with color and water, it is a very exciting festival for them where they get to soak themselves wet and cover themselves in a rainbow. People share wishes and greetings on the auspicious occasion of Holi. The festival also indicates the start of spring. This festival is also widely celebrated not only by Hindus but also non-Hindus across South Asia.
The festival of Holi is based on a legend about King Hiranyakaship. Hiranyakashyap had a son Prahlad who was the greatest devotee of Lord Vishnu. As Prahlad was the greatest devotee of Lord Vishnu, he did not put his father as the greatest God. Being the arrogant king he was, Hiranyakashyap was enraged and wanted to kill his son. He called his evil sister Holika who had a magic robe capable of protecting the wearer from burning. Hiranyakashyap ordered his sister to sit on a burning fire along with Prahlad. He thought that his sister would not be harmed by the fire because of the magic robe and Prahlad would be burnt to death. But the result was the opposite of what the evil demon king planned due to Lord Vishnu’s blessing. Thus, Prahlad came out of the burning fire safely and Holika was burnt to death. It is celebrated with colors to mark the victory of virtue and goodness over evil.
All hearts are lighted with glory and those anywhere enjoy with their close to and pricey ones with specific colorings. People also throw water balloons on each different and on passer-by using too. Many are also soaking wet in the colored water. Hours skip by using throwing colors on every different and it appears as though it is just the beginning of the day. he competition of Holi has a greater effect on Terai and Hilly areas. although Holi is celebrated in Himalayan areas as properly it isn’t as a great deal commonplace. however, the festival of colors is even becoming greater popular among non-Hindus. The festival of color powder is cherished by way of foreigners and those outdoor Asia are eager for this competition.
Besides celebrating the festival, on this day people love to dance, experience the live performance, experience soft and difficult drinks, and so forth.humans also acquire firewood, light bonfires, add hemp to their foods and drinks and make fools with themselves. On the day of Holi maximum of shops are closed. The entire Kathmandu valley is immersed in the festival atmosphere. whether people realize each different or not, they may be sprayed with Holi powder and colorful water. a few get a gentle touch, some will throughout a heavy splash, and others could be chased by colored water balloons. The festival of the holy can build up brotherhood, friendship, love, and closeness. This festival helps people remove quarrels, bitterness, enmity, brutality, and hatred.
But the spirit of the Holi is also ruined by some people. Many people start their evil fun by infuriating the strangers by way of forcefully throwing water balloons or colors on the way before time. Even during the festival, there are a few use colorings that are hard to cast off and unsafe for skin and health. Some ill-minded people also take this day as a chance to take revenge. From cases ranging using mud water to using egg yolks, there are even cases of using urine in the water balloons. People also smudge strong colors harmful to the skin, charcoal, and grease on other people’s faces which often creates a serious quarrel. This leads to unnecessary enmity and spoils the charm of the festival.
It is also a time where people from gangs and spray unfriendly insignias or paint their face in a multitude of colors which are harmful to health. We should not try to harm other’s time and annoy them. Some people also drink alcohol, sing vulgar songs, and speak filthy languages. Such misbehavior leads them to quarrels, enmity, and ruins. This ruins the spirit of the Holy. We should enjoy Holi in our own circle. Even if we celebrate among people we don’t know, we should not be unfriendly and try to spend time with them in a genuine way. We have to try to wash away all of the evils in our hearts in conjunction with the colors and permit the shade of love to stay there all the time and ever. that is the genuine spirit of Holi. One must take care not to indulge in bad practices and enjoy amidst the beautiful colors.
